  • Privacy. Anonymous by design: your responses to the questionnaire stay on your device for the survey experience; anonymous aggregate increments are sent to FourD so the collective chorus stays accurate—we do not keep a personal response record. If you email yourself a report, images pass through our mail server only for that send—they aren’t kept as a profile, and your email isn’t linked to your responses. Delivery logs keep only a masked fingerprint of the address (not the address itself) and are deleted after 30 days.

About
Progress Chart

The PROGRESS chart tracks two global measures of human longevity.

Life Expectancy (LE)

Also referred to as Lifespan: the average number of years a newborn is expected to live if current mortality patterns continue. It captures overall survival — the green line on the chart.

Lifespan is estimated from global historical trends, scaled to your country.

Health-Adjusted Life Expectancy (HALE)

Also called Healthy Life Expectancy or Healthspan: years a person can expect to live in full health — free from disabling illness or injury. It reflects years lived in good health, not just years lived — the blue line on the chart.

Healthspan is shown only from 2000 — it was not published for earlier periods.

The last century brought longer, healthier lives to more of humanity.

The gap between lifespan and healthspan is years lived in less than full health. Narrowing that gap is central to the promise of healthy longevity.

LifeSpan, or Life Expectancy (LE), is the number of years a person can expect to live. It captures overall survival.

HealthSpan, or Health-adjusted Life Expectancy (HALE), is the equivalent number of years a person can expect to live in full health—accounting for time lived in less than full health due to illness or injury. It reflects years lived in good health, not just years lived.

Together, they constitute healthy longevity.

Beyond lifespan and healthspan, holistic health spans four dimensions of well-being — the FourSpans polled here.

BrainSpan is cognitive and mental health — clarity, memory, resilience, and the capacity to learn and adapt across the life course.

EmotionSpan is emotional well-being — the ability to experience, regulate, and recover from stress, and to maintain psychological balance.

SocialSpan is connection and belonging — the quality of relationships, community, and social support that sustain health.

SoulSpan is purpose and meaning — the spiritual and existential dimensions that give life direction beyond physical health alone.

Together, these FourSpans express ambition for health that is not only longer, but whole.
